Jimmy Buffett’s New Video Shot In Bay St. Louis, Mississippi July 30th, 2006

Jimmy Buffett and Greg Iverson inside the Fire Dog Saloon in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi during the shooting of Buffett's latest video.

Greg Iverson, owner of the Fire Dog Saloon in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi sent me this photo of Jimmy Buffett and him standing inside the Fire Dog Saloon. Jimmy Buffett was shooting his newest video and the Fire Dog Saloon is playing the part of the famous (or infamous depending upon your opinion) FloraBama Lounge on the beach at the Florida/Alabama state line (hence the name “FloraBama“). Pete Tattersall of the Biloxi Sun Herald reported about it:

    Cindy Sheehan's Failed Book Signing
What If You Held A Book Signing And Very Few Showed Up?
That’s What Happened To Cindy Sheehan

Deception was used by followers of Cindy Sheehan in order to purchase land in Crawford, Texas. Why am I not surprised?

Tip o’ the hat to Wizbang! for the heads up! JimK over at MooreWatch has some rather…er…strong comments about Sheehan’s purchase and reminds readers of her prior claims that she didn’t have the money nor time to purchase her dead son, who died a hero, a marker for his grave. So she further dishonors Casey. Figures.

    Floyd Dixon (1929 – 2006) – R.I.P. July 28th, 2006

    Floyd Dixon
    Floyd Dixon
    February 8, 1929 – July 26, 2006

This has been a bad year for the music world, specifically blues music. Floyd Dixon passed away Wednesday in Los Angeles, California, of kidney failure. He was 77. Probably his best known song was “Hey, Bartender” originally released in 1954 which was later popularized on the 1978 album “Briefcase Full Of Blues” by The Blues Brothers (Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi). Alligator Records send out a press release on Dixon’s death. It said that Dixon stood alongside Charles Brown, Ray Charles and Arkansas’s own Louis Jordan “as one of a few artists who helped transform swing music into rhythm & blues. … Dixon was one of the true heroes of early R&B and jump blues.”

Dixon was born in Marshal, Texas, not far from the Louisiana border, and his family moved to Los Angeles when he was 13. The self-taught pianist first recorded for Supreme Records in 1947 and then for Modern Records in 1949. He switched to Aladdin Records and had his first hits, “Telephone Blues” and “Call Operator 210” in 1951 and 1952 before hitting it big in 1954 with “Hey Bartender” for the Cat label.

My condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Dixon. He truly will be missed.

The Overwhelming Mean Streak In Liberalism July 27th, 2006

Examples of liberals who routinely show hatred towards conservatives via their words and actions

Mark Noonan over at Blogs For Bush has written an excellent blog opinion piece on how widespread nastyness has become among liberals. I would hope that the true intellectuals on the liberal side of the aisle would come forward and be more visible but the “mean streak liberals” are currently in control. Plus it’s going to get worse before there’s any possibility of it getting better.

“What Makes A Terrorist?” Asks CNN Blog July 26th, 2006

CNN correspondent, Tom Foreman asked the following question on Anderson Cooper’s CNN blog: “What makes a terrorist?” He goes on trying to make a valid point by writing:

The United States and others clearly call Hezbollah a terrorist group: The source of countless raids, bombings and attacks on Israel; the bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983, which left 241 people dead; and the architects of all those displays in which young men cover their faces, strap mock bombs to their chests, and parade before the cameras pledging to kill any and all soldiers and civilians alike who oppose their cause.

All this makes Hezbollah, especially for many westerners, the very definition of a terrorist group.

But some people describe another part of Hezbollah. They talk about a group that is beloved in southern Lebanon for running schools, hospitals, social services, even clearing snow in the winter for some communities that the official government of Lebanon does not serve. They say these things make Hezbollah something other than a terrorist group: A quasi-government; a nation within a nation.

All of this is done for Shiite Muslim families. The Shiites in Lebanon have long felt economically and politically deprived, and Hezbollah clearly gives many of them a feeling of both military and social strength.

There’s an obvious flaw with Foreman’s reasoning. A flaw clearly demonstrated by looking at our own history here in the United States. Al Capone and John Gotti were beloved in Chicago and New York City respectively for running schools, hospitals, social services, even clearing snow in the winter for some communities that the official government of Chicago and New York City didn’t serve. This doesn’t negate the fact that both men were vicious mobsters who routinely murdered people to maintain their base of power. John Wayne Gacy dressed up as a clown and performed regularly for children in hospitals. Did his kind acts make him any less of a psychopathic mass murderer?

Trying to justify evil by bringing forth the little good done by those evil groups is irresponsible.

    Foreman ends his entry thusly:

If you ran a newsroom, how would you define who is called a terrorist and who is not? What, for you, is Hezbollah?

Well, Mr. Foreman, perhaps we can better understand your position when you answer my questions which are similar to yours:

If you ran a newsroom, how would you define who is called a mobster and who is not? What, for you, are Al Capone and John Ghotti? If you ran a newsroom, how would you define who is called a psychopath and who is not? What, for you, is John Wayne Gacy?

A tip o’ the cap to Lori Byrd for the heads up!

Code Pink’s Chief Lunatic Strikes Again July 26th, 2006

Medea Benjamin Being Escorted Out After Disrupting Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s Speech To A Joint Session Of Congress

Well, once again Code Pink’s co-founder and confirmed unhinged moonbat Medea Benjamin managed to weasel her way into an event where she didn’t belong for the sole purpose of disrupting it. She did it before back in 2005 where she managed to weasel her way into the VIP section during Bush’s inauguration speech. Both times she was supplied tickets by Democrats who are accused to knowing beforehand the disruption Benjamin would cause. In this instance Major Owens, a Democrat from Brooklyn, NY supplied the tickets to Benjamin. This has been confirmed by Daniel Freedman at It Shines For All. I can accept that it was possible that in the first instance, the Congresscritters who supplied the tickets to the VIP section to the disruptors may not have known of their intention. I don’t buy it, but I will leave it open as a possibility. However in this instance it cannot be argued that Owens didn’t know Benjamin’s intention. Congressman Owens should be investigated for encouraging subversive activity in the Halls of Congress and held accountable for his actions. Michelle Malkin weighs in on this issue and supplies some background as well. Video of the incident can be seen at Outside The Beltway blog. Gateway Pundit has an excellent post on Benjamin’s behavior.

    Medea Benjamin On O'Reilly Factor

Medea Benjamin is completely unhinged and in my opinion has nothing substantive to offer. I have watched her appear on various political talk shows and each time all she can offer are accusations but no solutions. On “The O’Reilly Factor” for example, Bill O’Reilly repeatedly asked her how she would have handled dealing with Saddam Hussein yet she dodged the question repeatedly and instead responded with personal attacks on President Bush. This woman is the epitome of the term “moonbat” as it is currently being used in regards to the overly-emotional Bush-bashers out there who seem to be unable and unwilling to engage in anything other than all-out verbal war. If she offered logical, thoughtful, reasoned responses then at least I could respect her on an intellectual level, but her words and actions have shown her to be so extremely over-the-top and out of touch with reality that she deserves no respect whatsoever. And she will get none from me.

Medea Benjamin [On the Right] with Cindy [Momma Moonbat] Sheehan During Sheehan's Bogus Fast

Incidentally, the above photo is of Medea Benjamin (on the right) with Cindy “Momma Moonbat” Sheehan on their respective and bogus hunger strikes. The picture was apparently taken prior to Benjamin’s disruption of Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s speech to a joint session of Congress. Their hunger strike is a lie among many untruths presented by Benjamin and Sheehan in the past. To anyone and everyone willing and able to be truthful, Benjamin and Sheehan cannot and should not be trusted in any way, fashion or form.

Keith Olbermann Gives A Nazi Salute While Holding A Bill O’Reilly Mask To His Face

Brent Bozell has an excellent article examining Keith Olbermann’s Nazi salute stunt and examines Olbermann’s general situation at MSNBC. It’s dead on concerning not only Keith Olbermann in general but also the type of fans he is attracting. Bozell’s artical is definitely worth reading.

    Zayszly Artz Mugs
    Zayszly Artz Mugs

Not too long ago, I was given a mug created by potter Joe Zayszly of Pensacola. The one I received looked similar to the one on the top of the pyramid although each one is unique and no two are alike since they are all handmade. The Zayszly’s (Joe and L.B.) created works of art in the form of platters, mugs, mirrors, bowls and much more. Their shop in Pensacola is called Zayszly Artz but I am uncertain if it remains open. The reason why I am uncertain is that Joe Zayszly passed away Saturday, July 1st, 2006. My parents introduced me to the Zayszly’s art and I’ve found it to be wonderful. I never had the opportunity to visit their shop and so far no one has returned my emails asking if the shop will remain open. Perhaps someone from the Pensacola area reading this might have an answer to that. UPDATE: I have been informed that even though Mr. Zayszly passed away, his wife will keep the shop open.

MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann Sinks To A New Low (Where’s The Liberal Outrage?) July 24th, 2006

Keith Olbermann Gives A Nazi Salute While Holding A Bill O'Reilly Mask To His Face
Keith Olbermann Gives A Nazi Salute While Holding A Bill O’Reilly Mask To His Face

I go out of town and away from my computer for a few days and something like this happens thanks to Keith Olbermann. I just can’t let you kids alone for any length of time.

I’ve read much on this incident which took place during the Saturday morning breakfast session at the Television Critics Association press tour. It is unarguable that if Bill O’Reilly, who was also in attendance, had held up a Keith Olbermann mask in front of his face and gave a Nazi salute, mainstream media outlets would be demanding Fox fire him. However, when Olbermann, a darling of the mainstream corporate media, does something this stupid, he gets a free pass.

Now before you liberals try to deny this solid point I make, let me remind you that history already shows a trend among liberals for demanding conservatives be fired for transgressions while ignoring similar transgressions made by fellow liberals. Yeah, I know, there are liberal extremists out there who ignore history or try to rewrite it in their favor (see: 2000 Presidential Election) but the fact of the matter is that even at the time I write this blog entry, the liberal mainstream corporate media have ignored Olbermann’s classless act. Not surprising.

There’s plenty from blogs about this (another example of how the corporate mainstream media has lost touch with the public). Olbermann Watch weighs in on Keith Olbermann’s classless behavior. Aaron Barnhart also writes about this including a portion of an interview with Olbermann where Keith attempts to twist the numbers to make it appear that his abysmal ratings are actually good. Expose The Left has an entry about this as well. Brian Stelter at TVNewser doesn’t think it’s that big of a deal. Anna Johns has an entry at TVSquad about Olbermann which includes a very apt description of Keith Olbermann by Fox spokesperson Irena Briganti. Broadcasting & Cable also mentions Olbermann’s Nazi salute.

Could this be merely an example of Olbermann being desperate for attention outside his MSNBC show? It’s obvious he can’t attract viewership in normal methods. Could this be another sign of Olbermann imploding once again like he did at ESPN? Regardless, Keith Olbermann is showing poor judgment and obsession bordering on psychotoc behavior. Perhaps the pressure put upon him by MSNBC execs and the fact that he is on the bottom of the cable news ratings ladder looking up at O’Reilly (the ratings leader) is causing so much mental anquish that Olbermann is beginning to lose control.

It will be highly interesting to see how (or even if) O’Reilly and Olbermann respond on their respective shows tonight. [UPDATE: Turns out Olbermann is off and MSNBC had a sub hosting “Countdown.” I watched some of O’Reilly’s show and didn’t see him acknolwedge it at all. I didn’t watch the whole show so I don’t know if he saved it for the “Most Ridiculous Item Of The Day” segment.]

UPDATE: Michael “A.J. Sparxx” Illions over at PoliPundit brought up a very, very similiar situation where one of their on-air personalities was fired for doing a Nazi salute. In this case in involved John Bradshaw Layfield who at the time was a economic analyst for MSNBC as well as a professional wrestler for the WWE. In this instance, Layfield was on tour in Germany with the WWE and in an attempt to draw cheap heat from the crowd during a show did Nazi salutes and goose-stepped. The outrage in the media was evident and MSNBC fired Layfield. So this brings up two unanswered questions; 1) Where is the media outrage this time? and 2) Why isn’t MSNBC being consistent and firing Olbermann?

Our New [Used] Car! July 23rd, 2006

My wife and I just got back from Biloxi, Mississippi. The reason for the journey? We had to get a replacement vehicle for the one damaged in a two-car accident a couple of weeks ago. Since it was the other person’s fault, her insurance paid the blue book value of my wife’s car, a 1995 Nissan Maxima. The reason we chose to go all the way to Mississippi to get a replacement vehicle is that my wife’s Uncle owns a car lot in Long Beach, Mississippi called Hancock Auto Annex and routinely brings back good used automobiles from various auto auctions (including one major one in Orlando). His son Scotty has been described as a “crackerjack mechanic” so his opinion on vehicles is valued. So with family ties, we got a better deal on a vehicle with Hancock Auto Annex than anything here in the Tallahassee area. Plus, due to my inlaws having connections, we were able to obtain a loan for the balance of the car that was better than anything we could have gotten here in Tallahassee.

    Hancock Auto Annex

    So what did we get?

A 2000 Toyota Avalon with just under 80K miles on it. It’s an unusual color. Sort of a blueish gray that my wife has dubbed “sharkskin blue.” 80,000 may sound like a lot but according to several qualified and trustworthy mechanics, that amount of mileage on a Toyota is nothing and if the vehicle is maintained properly, 3 times that amount can be on the vehicle and more than likely it will continue to run great.

    2000 Toyota Avalon

We drove it back from Biloxi to Tallahassee today and it ran fine. Very smooth and quiet. All in all, I think we got a great deal and an excellent car. I wish we earned more money because it would be nice to be able to get a second one and trade in my old vehicle which is somewhat of a gas-guzzler.

So That’s What Karma Is? July 18th, 2006

    Pontiac Trans Am

Some people call it “karma.” But basically it boils down to “what goes around comes around.”

On my way home from work I make a left turn onto a busy multiple-laned road briefly before going onto the onramp to the interstate. The left turn area is actually made of two lanes, an inside lane and an outside lane…both turning left. When I turn left it is important to be in the right lane of the two left-turn lanes so that once on the busy road you can ease to the right to get on the interstate onramp.

    Following me so far?

Anyway, as usual at this time of afternoon, there are plenty of vehicles in both of the left turn lanes. Once the turn signal goes green, we all start our turns and several of us, once we get on the busy road, start to ease over to the right to get on the interstate onramp.

    Except for one redneck doofus.

Mr. Doofus, driving a Trans Am similar to the one pictured above but it very bad condition, must have decided that there were too many of us in the right-hand left turn lane so he got in the left-most left turn lane to try to beat as many people and then swerve right to get to the onramp.

In doing so, the mental defective just about hit me. I blew my horn but he must have been deaf, too. I suspected at this point he was brainless as well. However once on the interstate onramp, his flooring the souped-up engine to tailgate the person in front of him AND the immediate leftward swerve at high speed to get on the onramp before the lane was clear confirmed he lacked a brain.

It’s only a couple of mile from where I get onto the interstate highway to where I normally get off and with the exception of a couple of hills, I can see pretty far in the distance. So I had clear views of the redneck, braindead moron as he swerved in and out of traffic (never signalling – that must have been too much trouble).

    And then it happened.

Even at over a mile ahead by this time, I clearly saw a major puff of smoke come from the back of the idiot’s vehicle and could tell he was losing speed rapidly. I was wondering if his engine had thrown a rod or something. As he was coming to stop on the shoulder, it became apparent that something had cause his rear passenger-side tire to suffer a complete blowout. The tire was in shreds and I could only hope he had damaged his rim by that time.

98 degrees outside. Middle of the afternoon. No shade. And here was Mister “I’m Going To Drive Like A Maniac” stuck on the side of the interstate near some railing about to start the long, arduous, tiring and hopefully very sweaty task of changing his tire. I hope he didn’t have a jack in the trunk. Maybe, if we good drivers are lucky, he had some drugs stashed in the vehicle and a Florida Highway Patrol officer came to help that ended up searching his vehicle and finding said drugs. Maybe Mr. Maniac passed out of a heatstroke.

Sometime life pays you back like that. Ain’t it a bitch?

Quote Of The Year? July 17th, 2006

George Bush (l) and Tony Blair (r)

Last year’s quote of the year for me came from Lt. General Russel “Ragin’ Cajun” Honorè when he put a verbal smackdown on reporters who kept pressing an ignorant points. As reporters continued to ask questions about the previous hurricane, General Honorè interrupted, “You’re asking last storm questions for people who are concerned about the future storm. Don’t get stuck on stupid, reporters. We’re moving forward.” The very next question came from a male reporter who began to ask, “General, a little bit more about why that’s happening this time, though it did not happen last time…” General Honorè interrupted, “You are stuck on stupid. I’m not going to answer that question… Let’s talk about the future. Rita is happening.”

That was 2005. In 2006, I think we have a good nominee from this week’s Group of Eight summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. Bush was talking privately to British Prime Minister Tony Blair during a lunch at the summit about the upsurge of violence in the Middle East, not realizing a microphone was recording what he said. During the conversation Bush replied to something Blair said with “See the irony is what they need to do is to get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit and it’s over.” Shortly afterwards Blair noticed the microphone and hastily switched it off, but not before the recording had reached news media. I first heard this while watching a report on Fox News which played it completely uncensored. To me it was refreshing to hear George Bush speak the truth in strongly-worded, plain language (“colorful language” according to several media outlets). It made a clear point better than any diplomatic speech could have done. George Bush is right, they need to get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing the shit they’re currently doing. Ever that or Israel will take Hezbollah and perhaps Syria down and out.
