Detouring a Flooded Road

With all the rain that came through the area the past several weeks, flooding was bound to occur. In an earlier post, pictures painted a graphic picture of some of that flooding.

The flooding closed a bridge along my normal route to and from work so I found an alternate route taking some rural roads taking me out of Florida for a little distance into southern Georgia. It made for a nice change of scenery and some interesting sites. I took my camera along one day after work and took some pictures.

Jackie Robinson historical marker

Historical marker for the birthplace of Jackie Robinson.

Driving along Hadley Ferry Road in southern Georgia, I passed this historical marker but couldn’t tell what it marked. A few days later, I stopped with my camera to take some pictures and read that I was standing where major league baseball hall of famer Jackie Robinson was born.

Jackie Robinson birthplace - chimney

The only evidence of any building.

The only other item on the site was this chimney.

Abandoned building

An abandoned building along Gainey Road.

Along another road I took, Gainey Road, I came across this abandoned building. I don’t know what it used to be. I don’t think it was residential but was probably some sort of commercial building. I guess it might have been a small country store.

Another view of the abandoned building.

If you look carefully through the barred window, you can see the open rear exitway.

A closer view of the front door of this abandoned building.

I used a flash to get a little better view inside the building without going inside. I didn’t think it would be a good idea to explore in the building.

Nice flowers.

This was across the road from the abandoned building.
