I obtained the Mobile Area Council patch above from a Scout supply shop in Mobile, Alabama back in the late 70's.

This JSP is the Mobile Area Council's celebration of not only Scouting, but also two Mobile institutions, The U.S.S. Alabama and Mardi Gras.

(Just a note about Mardi Gras -- To be technically correct, the entire festival season is properly referred to as "Carnival." Mardi Gras (French for "Fat Tuesday") is the final day of Carnival that takes place before Ash Wednesday which is the first day of Lent. Also, contrary to popular belief, Carnival in the United States did not originate in New Orleans, Louisiana but actually in Mobile, Alabama. It's a fact!)
