Original Victory Bridge
(West of Chattahoochee, Florida)
This view underneath a portion of the original Victory Bridge shows a
structure with a ladder going from the ground to the door on the upper portion
of the structure. There is also a second ladder from the bridge to an old
gangplank that also leads to the entrance to the structure. I do not know for
what purpose this structure was originally used but I speculate it may had to do
with monitoring river levels or perhaps operating the drawbridge (although the
history book from which I have gotten my information states that the controls
for the drawbridge portion was located on the western banks of the Apalachicola
River). Anyone know what the structure is? On the next page are some closer
views of it both from the ground and also from the bridge itself.
