O’Donnell Campaigning To Be Next “Price Is Right” Host

Rosie O'Donnell

According to many published reports, former “The View” co-host (and celebrity conspiracy theorist) Rosie O’Donnell is actively campaigning to be hired as the new host of “The Price Is Right” replacing long-time retired host Bob Barker. According to TMZ.com:

The former “View” flamethrower tells her fan-inquisitors at rosie.com that she’s meeting with CBS this week to talk about “TPIR,” and that she’s all set to go if CBS asks her to take over the skinny mike from Bob Barker, who ended his 30-year run last Friday. “If they asked me, I sure would … I LOVE THE PRICE IS RIGHT,” she wrote. Barker endorsed Ro as his replacement over the weekend.

However executives at FremantleMedia North America, which owns the show, have admitted that they don’t have much interest in seeing her come aboard according to published reports. CBS execs have remained silent on the issue and have not made any statements about the ongoing auditions which have included tryouts from “CBS Early Show” weatherman David Price, “Entertainment Tonight” co-host Mark Steines, Mario Lopez, George Hamilton, John O’Hurley, Todd Newton, Mark Kriski of L.A.’s “KTLA Morning News” and, most recently, Ian Ziering, who auditioned last week. I feel that if O’Donnell is made host of the long running game show, their will be an initial spike in ratings (a curiosity factor) which would be followed by a steady decline which could be accelerated by any off-the-wall, offensive comments which O’Donnell would probably make (not suring the show since it’s taped and heavily edited in post-production). This would parallel the decline of CBS’s evening news program since hiring Katie Couric as anchor.

My choice, for whatever it’s worth, from the list of people known to have auditioned for the hosting duties, my choice would be Dave Price who is personable, can ad-lib well and seems to have excellent interaction skills with ordinary citizens. But that’s just my opinion.
