Christmas Video: “Twelve Yats Of Christmas” — Benny Grunch & The Bunch
I’ve always loved Christmas music and also music from New Orleans so whenever the two are combined I’m delighted. This video is a lighthearted parody of the 12 Days Of Christmas called “The 12 Yats Of Christmas” by the New Orleans’ group Benny Grunch & The Bunch. I have pretty much all of their CD’s and gotten each years’ Christmas CD. If you’re not from there nor ever have been to New Orleans then you might not “get” the references however those familiar with the city definitely might appreciate this song quite a lot. I know I do.
When I looked for Benny Grunch videos on YouTube, I also found a new video produced for WWL-TV and introduced by Frank Davis. It’s called “Over By Your Mamma ‘N’em” and it’s a poignant reminder of what was lost in the New Orleans area as well as all the places devastated by Hurricane Katrina. I found the video to be quite moving. A departure from the usual lighthearted nature of most of Benny Grunch’s songs. There’s a video available of Benny Grunch’s “G.E.D. Fight Song” performed live on WWL-TV that you can watch.
Finally, there’s three Benny Grunch & The Bunch Christmas videos available on the WWL-TV website: “Santa & His Reindeer Used To Live Right Here,” “The Twelve Yats Of Christmas” and “Ain’t Dere No More.” So not only is there a second place to see and hear “The Twelve Yats Of Christmas” but you can see two other Christmas classics as well. And if you like what ya hear, consider going over to Benny’s website and buy a copy of his current Christmas CD. They sell out quick and if you don’t hurry, they are gonna be “ain’t dere no more.”
