PhotoHunt 91: Delicious

The latest PhotoHunt category from tnchick.com is “Delicious” which can be interpreted as one sees fit. This week, I am featuring a triple play of what some call “food porn.” Both my wife and I are very good cooks and on occasion, my wife will get the mood to be very creative in regards to cooking and try some new recipes. Here are a couple of examples.

First off is my wife’s Miso Soup made from scratch. This is a traditional Japanese Soup of which we first tried in a local multi-oriental restaurant. This has become her favorite soup and after some time of enjoying it in restaurants she decided to try her hand at recreating it at home. So she searched for recipes online, found one, got the ingredients from a local oriental grocer and this was the result. It definitely was delicious.

This next photo is my wife’s initial and delicious attempt at a dish called “Pork Chops Capri.” She found the recipe online and decided to make it for dinner when the nearby grocery store had pork chops on sale.

The final picture is from several years ago during Christmas. Apparently I had mentioned during a conversation with my parents that I wonder what a turducken would taste like since I had never tried one before. My wife and I had seen it featured on the Food Network and it happened to come up in that particular conversation. Needless to say, my Daddy thereby got the idea of surprising us with one for that upcoming year’s “Christmas hostage swap” (an annual event where Momma and Daddy would meet us at the almost halfway point between Pensacola and Tallahassee {Marianna, Florida} at a Ruby Tuesday’s restaurant by I-10 where we would swap the Christmas gifts we had gotten each other that year). I didn’t know that in Pensacola there is a store called Cajun Specialty Meats which sells all sorts of cajun and creole foods. The owners are transplanted Louisianans so the foods are quite authentic. Incidentally they sell their products online as well so if you’re interested in trying one of their turduckens (or their crawfish boudin sausage, or their crawfish or shrimp pies, or whatever) feel free to give their website a visit.
However I digress…
We were surprised by the hefty styrofoam cooler Momma and Daddy gave us containing the frozen turducken which we took home, thawed in the refrigerator and eventually cooked up. Now if you ever plan on trying a turducken, make sure to have plenty of people lined up to help you eat it because a standard turducken is too big for just two people to eat without having way too much leftovers. We ended up sharing a lot of leftover turducken with friends and co-workers. I think we caused several people to become turducken fans since many of them ordered some for themselves by the following Thanksgiving and Christmas. Needless to say it was delicious and since then we’ve gotten a couple more turduckens (although none recently).
