PhotoHunt 95: Narrow

The latest PhotoHunt category from tnchick.com is “Narrow” which can be interpreted as one sees fit. This week I am featuring a Florida Panhandle landmark, the Crooked River Lighthouse which is located very near Carrabelle, Florida (home of the world’s smallest police station).

The lighthouse was originally built in 1895 and stands 103 feet tall. It stands adjacent to U.S. Highway 98 and is accessable via a small entranceway. The lighthouse is surrounded on the ground level by a chain-link fence to keep curious individuals from attempting to enter the lighthouse via the narrow door at its base.

As you can see, the entranceway to the lighthouse is quite narrow as well as is the main body of the lighthouse.

At dusk on December 8, 2007, the refurbished tower was reactivated with a new lens that produces the flash sequence of the original Fresnel lens. Future plans call for a replica of the keeper’s house to be constructed near the tower to serve as a museum.

After I posted the PhotoHunt entry of the Crooked River Lighthouse, I remembered another picture I took on the same trip. Near the small coastal town of Lanark Village, Florida along U.S. Highway 98 is this three-story home (that’s three stories on top of the pylons raising it above predicted tidal surges caused by tropic storms and hurricanes) that has always intrigued me. I finally took a photo of it and didn’t think of it as an example of narrow until after I initially posted my PhotoHunt entry. However it’s here now.

One Thing Killed Rudy Giuliani
There is much speculation over Rudy’s recent precipitous fall in popularity. Some attribute it to ignoring the first states to vote in the primary season in favour of concentrating on Florida and Super Tuesday or his politicizing of 9/11.

Two tall, narrow houses. I don’t believe I’d trust the second one not to fall down in a strong surf or high winds.
Here’s my narrow.
