Gustav Now A Rainmaker — What’s Next?

Hurricane Gustav roared onshore at Cocodrie, Louisiana, about 70 miles southwest of New Orleans as a category 3 storm. Although, as it turned out, Gustav was no Katrina, federal and state officials treated the hurricane as a major threat and effectively evacuated residents from the path of the storm. Lessons were learned from tragic mistakes that were made during and after Katrina. Thus far officials seem to be handling this storm much better. We shall see how the aftermath of Gustav is handled as well but hopefully assistance will be swifter and smoother in coming.
So what’s next?
There are three tropical storms in line, with Hanna being the closest and most imminent threat to the United States. Forecasters are predicting Hanna to become a hurricane and eventually make landfall somewhere along the coastline of Georgia or South Carolina then work its way up the eastern seaboard dumping plenty of rain and possibly spawning tornados. Further out in the Atlantic are Tropical Storms Ike and Josephine. And believe it or not, a tropical wave recently formed between Hanna and Ike.
