High School Reunions
I was listening to a song by Joe Walsh called “Class of ‘65” which is about him being invited to his class reunion which turns out to be more melancholy and emotional than he anticipated. This, along with some other things ongoing in my life, got me wondering about my high school class.
I wonder. How have their lives changed? Are they prospering? Are they struggling? How similar or different have their experiences over the past 26 years been compared to mine? I began to ponder questions like these while listening to Walsh’s song. I figured you could change 1965 to 1981 and it very well could be me in the same scenario.
However I’ve never gone to any reunion from my old high school. I’ve never been invited. In fact, I’ve lost contact with every single one of the classmates from the “Class of ’81.” Admittedly it’s not a large class. In fact, there were only 14 of us back then in that small Mississippi town. And frankly, back then I had a lot of anger and resentment within me. I just wanted to get the heck out of there and never look back. Back then I felt that little Mississippi town was more of a prison than a hometown and I needed to escape.
Funny what 26 years can do to a person. In my case, I’ve mellowed quite a bit and now live in a larger city in Florida. I’ve been married over 20 years and have held only a handful of fulltime jobs over that time period.
And I wonder what the thirteen others members of the class of ’81 are doing.
I wonder if any of them got curious and searched the web for others from high school.
I wonder if any of them found my website or my blog. After all I’m not hard to find on the ‘net. It’s not like I’m hiding.
I wonder if any of them were tempted to email me.
I wonder…
It would be nice to hear from any of them.
