Why Do I Blog?

Once again, I’ve been asked why do I blog. I’ve given explanations, rationalizations, reasons, excuses, etc. in the past when asked so perhaps it’s time to once again attempt to put such reasoning into words.

First off, I can tell you right away that it’s not for the fame. I’m about as anonymous as a grain of sand on the beach at St. George Island, Florida (don’t ask me to explain where that is — do a Google Maps search).

The top two clearcut reasons why I blog are: 1) I have a creative streak that’s gotta be released (to paraphrase John Lee Hooker, “It’s in him, it’s gotta come out.”); and 2) I have fun doing it. I ain’t rich nor am I even close to “upper middle class” so I can’t take vacations, buy a new toy or anything that requires spending money so I blog.

Whereas many blogs specialize with different topics (politics seems to be probably the most common), I blog about whatever inspires me at that particular moment. It may be political in nature. But then again it might deal with football or pro-wrestling or pocket knives or…

Sure, I’d love to get more people visiting my blog and I’d love to earn a living doing this but I’m realistic and pragmatic knowing that I have a handful of folks who come back from time to time to visit while others just happen to wander by via search engines and other sources. I also have no idea how I could earn a living doing this. It would be nice but probably won’t happen. And yes, I do know that I could put advertising on my blog but I don’t like the idea and since I get so few visitors, ads wouldn’t bring in much of anything regarding revenue.

So, I will continue to blog about whatever interests me. And if someone feels compelled to leave a comment, it will be appreciated whether such comments is in agreement with me or not. As long as the commenter leaves out profanity, I usually approve comments. I’ll continue writing my little missives even if the only persons reading them are my lovely wife and myself. This blog — my little corner of the internet — is my miniscule creative outlet and one of the few things I can do for fun. Yeah, I have a very uninteresting life and I’m probably never going to become the next Dave Barry but I’m the first and only me and that’s not bad.
