BCS Championship Game - Florida Gators vs. Ohio State Buckeyes
At 8pm EST today, the Gators play the Buckeyes for the National Championship in college football. It’s no surprise I will be pulling for the Buckeyes since I am a Florida State Seminoles fan and root for whomever is playing the Gators. Now I dislike the Gators less now since Steve Spurrier is a distant memory and Urban Meyer is a lot more likeable and respectable than Spurrier ever was. However, I still have to cheer on whomever is playing the Gators. It’s a longtime Seminole tradition.
However to look at this game as objectively as I can, here’s what I think.
First of all, Ohio State started off the season a little shaky but managed to put together a solid program on both offense and defense as well as special teams. The Florida Gators have shown themselves to be able to beat any team around but tend to be more inconsistent in their play especially on offense. Florida will have to play much more consistent and the offensive line will need to give the Gators QB protection against a tough Buckeye defensive rish in order to make their passing game successful. If the Buckeyes shut down the passing game, the Gators aren’t quite strong enough rushing to win the game against the Buckeyes. The Gators have to be successful in their passing in conjunction to have a chance to win. This is a game clearly in the Buckeyes favor but their defense has to be dominating in order for them to win. Any mistakes by their defense will cause them to give up points against the Gators.
The bottom line is how consistent can the Gators play. If they don’t stay at the top of their game, the Buckeyes will make them pay dearly. Ohio State is favored to win but Florida has the potential to shock Buckeye fans and win it all. However I don’t see it happening.
My prediction: Ohio State Buckeyes 31 - Florida 27
ADDENDUM: I’m about to call it a night and the BCS Championship game just finished up the 3rd quarter with Florida leading Ohio State 34-14. I’m not watching the game that much. Just been flipping to it from other channels from time to time to see the score. This is why I don’t bet on sporting events. My predictions suck. Unless the Gators just absolutely fall apart, they’ll be the National Champs for the second time (first under Urban Meyer’s coaching). It’s surprising how little Ohio State’s offense did after Ginn was injured. I never figured them to be so vulnerable. Ohio State’s zone defense has been picked apart by the Gators’ passing attack. When you leave seams wide open, receivers are going to be grabbing passes underneath all day long which sets up running plays when they try to cover the middle. And that’s what UF has been doing. Good night, everyone and congratulations to the National Champion Florida Gators. Incidentally, this will be the first time ever a Division 1-A university has won national championships in two major sports. UF won the NCAA championship in basketball and now in football.

I turned on the TV last night expecting the score to be OH State 24 Fl 10. I was shocked!

I am a Gator fan and I didlike the Seminoles, but you should always cheer for a Florida school in a bowl game, especially a National Championship, ven if you have an in state rivalry.
There are two many haters in other states who make fun of Florida, and don’t care that we have htree Major Universiites here than can compete for a National Title any given year. All they care about is beating Florida. It dosen’t matter if it’s UMF, FSU or UF, to them they laugh at the State if they beat us.
That being said, it was nice to see Ohio State get beaten down like dogs on national television and especially by the Gators. I hate Ohio sports period as my favorite Pro teams are Pittsburgh’s.
I live in Florida and pull for the Gators because I’m closer to Gainesville than Tallahasse or Miami.
