Deakon Roads Intruder Guitar - Some Personal Thoughts

I have been collecting guitars periodically since I started learning how to play back in 1997. I don’t collect a lot and what is in my collection probably don’t qualify as “collectible” in the classic sense. However it’s my collection and I enjoy playing them from time to time. I’m not a very good guitar player I’ll admit but I try. Anyway with that said, I wanted to show off one of my guitars that is unique.

2001 Deakon Roads Intruder guitar

Back in 2001 I became the owner of a Deakon Roads Intruder guitar. Deakon Roads was a Canadian company created guitars that “offer a unique combination of rich tone and easy playability at extremely competitive prices.” I got one indirectly and fell in love with its playability. In fact I feel it is just as good, if not better, than most of the high-end strats out there. Unfortunately it appears that the Intruder wasn’t the big seller the Deakon Roads company hoped for and it seems the company is no longer in business. The website’s copyright date is still stuck on 2003 and hasn’t been updated since. Even doing Google searches come up with only a handful of hits relating to the guitar and/or the company. I guess this makes my guitar a rarity although probably not a “collectable” in the classic guitar sense. It’s too bad this guitar is not easily found because I wouldn’t mind obtaining another one. I love the tone and sustain from the maple body and the color is deep and rich. It’s one of my favorite guitars on which to practice and if I ever did choose to perform in front of an audience (yeah, right…like THAT’S ever gonna happen) this would probably be my number one guitar. I may not be able to describe all the features and nuances of the Intruder, but if you ever to chance upon one, try it out. I think you’ll like it, too.
