The World According to Carl

Victoria Snelgrove

Wednesday night fans of the Boston Red Sox were celebrating the defeat of their long time rivals, the New York Yankees. Sometime during that celebration in the Kenmore Square neighborhood of Boston, police decided that the crowds had grown so large and unruly as to constitute a riot and as a result projectiles designed to disperse pepper spray were fired into the crowds. One person, Emerson University student Victoria Snelgrove, was struck in the eye by one of these projectiles. As she lay bleeding on the sidewalk, police prepared to fire more of these projectiles into the crowds.

Several hours later, Victoria died.

Video footage from the scene showed large crowds but no sign of rioting. Snelgrove, a journalism student, was lying on the ground with blood running down her face. The police have subpoenaed all television footage of the after-match celebrations and alledged rioting.

Reports indicated upwards of 80,000 Red Sox fans swarmed onto Boston steets with many reports of fires being set and vandalization of property. However only a handful of arrests were made.

Boston Mayor, Thomas Menino is now considering banning alcohol sales near Fenway Park during the World Series.

Okay, those are the reported facts so far.

Some, including Victoria’s parents claim she was not rioting and was only an innocent bystander.

The mayor now wants to consider banning alcohol sales during the Series games played in Boston.

I wish people would celebrate without going absolutely insane.
