25 Christmas CD’s in 25 Days – Day 18

El Vez - NoElVezSi: El Vez A Christmas Album
(2000 El Vez/Poptones Ltd.)

The only Christmas CD from the best-known Mexican Elvis (at least the only Mexican Elvis impersonator I know of). Don’t write it off as a joke, however. It’s quite good. It starts off strong with an excellent rockin’ rendition of “Feliz Navidad.” I particularly like his version of “Christmas Time Is Here” which harkens back to the Charlie Brown Christmas special. “Oranges For Christmas” is an over-the-top country-n-western lament of Christmas gifts consisting of oranges and a box of chocolate covered cherries in a large Hispanic family growing up in San Diego, California. El Vez puts his Elvis on for “Brown Christmas” “just like the ones in Mexico.” El Vez gets into a great Charles Brown blues mode in “Santa Claus Is Sometimes Brown.” I reiterate: don’t write this guy off because he’s an Elvis impersonator. This is a darned good CD that I recommend.

I welcome all the readers from Pirate’s Cove, The Bullwinkle Blog, The Blue Star Chronicles, Rightwing Guy, Perri Nelson’s Website, Third World County.
