25 Christmas CD’s in 25 Days – Day 19

Mark Russell - Christmas

To clear up any confusion that may exist, this is not the Mark Russell who is the musical political satirists that appears on PBS from time to time. Instead, this is the Mark Russell, internationally known jazz violinist.

Now that’s cleared up. This is a very soothing Christmas CD. Lots of traditional material like “Silent Night,” “Hark The Herald Angels Sing,” “O Tannenbaum” and others played fairly straightforward with Russell playing violin, guitar and mandolin on many tracks and even singing on a couple. He’s no Mel Tormè on “Christmas Song” but his vocals ain’t terrible, either. However he does much better singing on “Good King Wenceslas.” This is a very nice CD that I picked up at the Black Dog Cafè near Lake Ella in Tallahassee. I’m glad I did. You can get a copy via Russell’s website.
