Saturday Matinee of the Arts February 19th, 2005

Nancy and I just got back a little while ago from the Saturday Matinee of the Arts at the Tallahassee Museum of History & Natural Science. We enjoyed music performed by several local artists and bought some CD’s of theirs. Wonderful performances by Carrie Hamby, Drew Tillman and Paula Held.

    Activity Day! February 19th, 2005

My wife and I are about to head out for some events going on in Tallahassee today. One is a chili cook-off on the north side of town while the south side offers something called “Saturday Matinee of the Arts” which should be fun. I’m going to take my camera and will try to post some pictures later on this weekend. Even though Tallahassee is the capital of Florida, it really is more a small town rather than a bustling metropolis. Some consider that a plus while others wish Tallahassee would become a “real city.” I’m sort of in the middle. I like some of the small town feel, but I really wish Tallahassee would have more activities, events and concerts like larger cities consistently do. Also I wish Tallahassee wasn’t so isolated. It’s about a 3-hour drive to either Jacksonville to the east or Pensacola to the west (less time if you drive like a maniac and don’t get caught in the speed traps along the way).

    Stuff February 4th, 2005

This has got to be a real blockage of the creative areas of my brain. Nothing really worth blogging.

A couple of items worth noting however, a good friend of mine, Steve Addlesee, was diagnosed recently with a detached retina and was supposed to undergo surgery last Monday but they discovered he has diabetes. The surgery was postponed until the diabetes can be controlled. I hope it all goes well for him.

My mother was diagnosed with cancer. It’s a very small mass and according to my Dad, is about the smallest size and still be considered cancerous. They predict a very easy surgery but Mama has always been nervous about surgery (she’s had some very bad experiences in the past). The surgery is scheduled for approximately two weeks from now.
