Today was a normal workday for me with the minor addition of the fact that today is my birthday. I got a nice birthday present from my wife: a collection of Bruce Campbell DVDs, namely the entire series of The Adventures Of Brisco County, Jr., the complete series of Jack Of All Trades, and the collector’s edition of Bubba Ho-Tep. She knows I enjoy Bruce Campbell’s work ever since I saw the movie Army Of Darkness.
I saw a few episodes of the short-lived series The Adventures Of Brisco County, Jr. and really enjoyed them. It was a western with elements of science fiction, anachronism, and steampunk combined with a health dose of humor that aired initially in 1993 and 1994 on the Fox network. It has very clever writing with some very interesting wordplay containing little jokes quite often as well as some good, old-fashioned belly laughs. Some compare it to the 1960’s western Wild, Wild West and to a major degree I agree with that comparison. Even the incidental music is reminiscent of the Wild Wild West. I found it very funny and am glad I now have the entire series on DVD. Plus the DVD is loaded with extras including secondary track commentary by Bruce Campbell and Carlton Cuse. My wife thought I might like Campbell’s Jack Of All Trades even though I’ve not seen any episodes. I look forward to seeing them all. I’ve already started The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. and find it funnier than I remember.

This post worked well the past two years it appeared on this blog. I guess a third use, with a few minor revisions, wouldn’t hurt. It’s recycling and good for the environment.
Many years ago in a quiet little blues village called Clarksdale in the land of Mississippi, a child was born on this day that Thomas and Cecelia named Carl.
They raised that boy although he gave them ample reasons to leave him beside the roadway in deep dark forests and murky swamps over the years.
Yup…that was me and today is my birthday. And although I won’t say how old I am45, I will say that45 I am somewhere in45 between 21 and 101.
If you are considering sending me a present pick something from my Amazon wishlist. I wouldn’t mind that 800mm zoom lens for my camera if you are feeling generous and happened to be loaded.
What? Can’t get that zoom lens for me? Oh well, a hearty “Happy Birthday” will be just fine.
I don’t plan on doing anything special today to celebrate. Besides I gotta work. I can’t have birthday cake anymore (too much sugar causes something called “dumping syndrome” which is an after effect of gastric bypass surgery). So it’ll be just another workday. Same old, same old.
Wait…maybe I shouldn’t have said old.

In regards to Michael Jackson, a freak and pervert, just bury him and let’s move on and concentrate on important things.
