Michelle Malkin has an excellent year-in-review of Islamofascism and how it has been expressed through violence, intimidation, coercion and other evil ways. The small percentage of Muslims behaving in this wicked way have unfairly put orthodox believers in Islam in a negative light.

This is the second Christmas CD featured in this year’s list with an Elvis impersonator. This time Dread Zeppelin‘s Tortelvis. This is also the second Dread Zeppelin Christmas CD I have (the first being “The First No-Elvis”). It starts out pretty much with fairly straightforward reggae renditions of Christmas classics like “Blue Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland” and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” with Tortelvis wandering in and out of Elvis-ness with his singing style. Then they rock out with an interesting take on “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” followed up with an unique “Let It Snow” with a stinging guitar. It gets a little weird when Tortelvis belts out an over-the-top “O Come All Ye Faithful” with a laid-back reggae beat. “Silver Bells” continues the reggae mood but is followed up with a hip-hop-ish “Sleigh Ride” and Tortelvis…rapping? Weird. They get back to the reggae with a pretty darned good “White Christmas.” The finalè is the “DZ Christmas Dub” which, in essence, is just plain strange.
This album definitely isn’t for everyone. Purists will absolutely hate it but if you’re open minded, have a sense of humor, maybe even are a reggae fan, give this Christmas CD a listen. You just might like it like I do.

While surfing some blogs, I came across a link to one of those silly quizzes. This one asks “Which Sports Car Are You?” According to my results, I’m a Ford Mustang! Yippee. However lately, I’ve been feeling as useless as a Yugo with a trailer hitch.
A tip o’ the cap to TexasFred’s for the heads up on this quiz. Yeah, he takes the quiz and is a Lamborghini Murcielago. Fancy!

According to Brian Maloney at Radio Equalizer and Robert Cox over at OlbermannWatch Keith Olbermann is demanding his current salary be increased to four times the amount he is currently receiving. From a reported one million dollars a year to over four million a year. Trade publication Broadcasting & Cable is saying:
“MSNBC parent NBC Universal has mandated $750 million worth of budget cuts across all divisions, and this is hardly a politic time to hand out a gargantuan raise. Meanwhile, CNN may have interest.”
So if MSNBC says “no” then Olbermann may wind up at CNN? Interesting. Let’s see how this unfolds. The New York Post is saying Olbermann needs a “king-size reality check.” Olbermann’s contract with MSNBC ends in April, 2007. Could this be a ploy by Olbermann to get on a bigger network like CNN? Does Olbermann really think MSNBC will pay him $4,000,000 per year? Will MSNBC cave in and give in to Olbermann’s demands even though NBC Universal has standing orders for massive budget cuts? Stay tuned, campers.

To clear up any confusion that may exist, this is not the Mark Russell who is the musical political satirists that appears on PBS from time to time. Instead, this is the Mark Russell, internationally known jazz violinist.
Now that’s cleared up. This is a very soothing Christmas CD. Lots of traditional material like “Silent Night,” “Hark The Herald Angels Sing,” “O Tannenbaum” and others played fairly straightforward with Russell playing violin, guitar and mandolin on many tracks and even singing on a couple. He’s no Mel Tormè on “Christmas Song” but his vocals ain’t terrible, either. However he does much better singing on “Good King Wenceslas.” This is a very nice CD that I picked up at the Black Dog Cafè near Lake Ella in Tallahassee. I’m glad I did. You can get a copy via Russell’s website.

Last Saturday the world of professional wrestling lost another legend in the passing of Don Jardine. Outside of a handful of people, most old school wrestling fans probably won’t recognize his name, but if you mention The Spoiler or The Super Destroyer you’ll find that more people remember him wearing a mask back in the glory days of professional wrestling. Personally speaking, The Spoiler was one of my all-time favorite masked wrestlers and I remember watching him on Georgia Championship Wrestling on TV. In fact, a couple of years ago I commissioned custom masks made by master mask maker “Ironman” Mike Woody based on three of Jardine’s patterns for my personal collection. I remember him best as the Spoiler and out of respect, I have the picture above of him under the hood. The Spoiler would do incredible moves that were unique back then. For example, he would walk the ropes while keeping the claw hold on his opponent. Keep in mind, he was 6′ 4″ talk and 240 pounds so this was no easy feat. Today, the Undertaker does similarly and supposedly credits Don Jardine for the inspiration. Jardine also was a high flyer during a time when wrestlers of that size stayed pretty much exclusively on the mat. There is a tribute article on Canoe Network’s Slam! Sports about Don Jardine with several good links.

The only Christmas CD from the best-known Mexican Elvis (at least the only Mexican Elvis impersonator I know of). Don’t write it off as a joke, however. It’s quite good. It starts off strong with an excellent rockin’ rendition of “Feliz Navidad.” I particularly like his version of “Christmas Time Is Here” which harkens back to the Charlie Brown Christmas special. “Oranges For Christmas” is an over-the-top country-n-western lament of Christmas gifts consisting of oranges and a box of chocolate covered cherries in a large Hispanic family growing up in San Diego, California. El Vez puts his Elvis on for “Brown Christmas” “just like the ones in Mexico.” El Vez gets into a great Charles Brown blues mode in “Santa Claus Is Sometimes Brown.” I reiterate: don’t write this guy off because he’s an Elvis impersonator. This is a darned good CD that I recommend.

The one song I will always associate with The Kingston Trio is “The Tattooed Lady.” When I was a little kid, it was one of my favorite songs on the vinyl albums my Momma had that she would allow me to play. “The Last Month Of The Year” is a digitally remastered re-release of the 1960 lp the group released. Most of the songs on the album are not well known today but are quite beautiful. For example, “The White Snows Of Winter” was adapted from Brahm’s First Symphony, arranged by Trio member Bob Shane in collaboration with Tom Drake and its musical setting is evocative of the lover’s plight and resolution with the arrival of Christmas. They do a wonderful rendition of “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” in the recognizable Kingston Trio style. This is one of the more unique Christmas CDs in my collection and a must-have for folk music fans.

Here are some statistics and conclusions about a different subject.
If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theatre of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2,112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers.
The firearm death rate in Washington, DC Is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same period.
That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in the U.S. Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.
Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington, DC.
A tip o’ the cap to American And Proud for the heads up on this.

I know of the little conference in Iran that wacko Iranian President Ahmadinejad had to figure out that the Jewish holocaust didn’t happen (at least in their little fictional, fraudulent, lunatic universe) but there was a group there that made me think Rod Serling wrote this episode or maybe it was something from the X-Files. Uncle Mac over at Mac In Black has an extensive article about this. [WARNING: Very strong language. NSFW!]

I still haven’t gone by my surgeon’s office to weigh myself on the “official” scale, but a clear sign I’m still losing weight is apparent. About 3 or 4 weeks ago, my wife and I went to Dillard’s in one of the local malls to see if they might have some clothes on clearance. Sure enough there were several racks in and near the big & tall men’s section with clothes marked 75% off in addition to the reduced price. I picked up several pairs of brand name shorts for about $5 apiece. Each pair were size 50′s which at the time fit me but were a bit snug. Today it was warm enough for me to wear a pair of those shorts and I put on one of the size 50′s and darnit if they ain’t loose on me already! So I figure I must be down to about a 48 inch waist if not a bit smaller. I’m such a loser!

John Kerry has a long traitorous history of meeting with America’s enemies and bad-mouthing the U.S. in the process. The most recent example is Kerry’s current trip to the middle east. He plans on meeting with American troops stationed there even though his “botched joke” was clearly an insult to those troops. That’s partly the reason why Gold Star mom Debra Bastian is publicly requesting that soldiers refuse to be coerced into posing for publicity pictures with John Kerry.
And in case you didn’t see the picture above, the soldier seen with Hillary Clinton is giving the sign for “coercion” so that Clinton cannot see it but the camera can. He obviously did not wish to pose for the picture but someone ordered him to do so. Hopefully no one will order soldiers to pose with Kerry. In fact, I hope some crafty soldier or soldiers manage to covertly work in some sort of signal in with any publicity photos with Kerry.

(2000 Miss Butch Records And Tapes/Mardi Gras Records, Inc.)
This is a cool collection of Christmas r&b and blues from the Los Angeles based Miss Butch Records and Tapes. All songs recorded on this CD were by Peggy Scott-Adams, Natisse “Bambi” Jones, Billy Ray Charles and Jimmy Lewis either solo or in various combinations. It’s all top-notch Christmas music in my opinion. Peggy Scott-Adams’ “Christmas Friends Of Mine” is an outstanding Christmas blues tune describing the wide range of Peggy’s friends that usually come over for Christmas for better or for worse. Billy Ray Charles and Jimmy Lewis team up with a blues lament trading bad Christmas tales on “Wild Horses Two Mules And A Tractor.” I really like all the cuts on this album, but my favorite by far has to be Billy Ray Charles’ “I Been Double Crossed By Santa Claus” who warns not to let Santa get around your baby alone. Santa you horn-dog, you! Well maybe it wasn’t the real Santa ’cause he showed up in a Cadillac.
If you happen to come across this wonderful Christmas CD, I suggest you buy it. It’s a cool Christmas CD that I listen to more than most of the ones in my collection. Although you probably won’t come across it in your local CD shop, I found that there are several online sources for this Christmas CD.

Not surprisingly, Jimmy Carter is unwilling to answer critics for errors in his latest best-selling book, “Palestine: Peace not Apartheid.” In the latest incident Carter was invited to speak at Brandeis University if he were willing to debate one of his most outspoken critics, Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz. Dershowitz has been challenging Carter on numerous TV news shows and radio talk shows in past weeks and has exposed numerous misleading items in Carter’s book. However Carter refuses to take on Dershowitz nor anyone else who is knowledgable of the issues Carter brings up. Instead good ol’ Jimmy would rather only appear with interviewers lobbing softball questions. In the case of Brandeis University, Carter refused the invitation. In other words, he turned tail and ran. Typical. Carter claims Dershowitz “knows nothing about the situation” yet Carter cannot cite specifics. Dershowitz logically points out “President Carter said he wrote the book because he wanted to encourage more debate; then why won’t he debate?” Because Carter knows he would be exposed as the ignorant, anti-Israel coward that he is. Carter should have never written the book and just stayed with something safe like building houses for Habitat For Humanity.
