New Orleans’ premiere funk band has always been considered to be The Meters. This performance from a 1974 Japanese television show is a prime example of how great their music is.

Okay, so I have TWO videos of the day. So there! I had a list of videos on YouTube with “Nerf Herder” (I was looking for the band of that name) and this video by The Younglings came up. It’s hip-hop in the Star Wars universe. ‘Nuff said.

I can’t remember where I first saw this video but it definitely made am impression on me. Since I am an admitted Trekkie from the days of the original series (I’m dating myself but I was a wee rug rat when it originally aired in the 60’s — I really got hooked on it when I was a tad older and the show was in syndication) and a music nut as well this song appealed to me. I don’t know if this song qualifies as “nerd-core” or “nerd-rock” or whatever. I just know it’s a good song and a fun and entertaining video, too. It’s the video of the day. Enjoy.

By now most people remember the embarrassing and disgraceful Rosie O’Donnell moment from last December when she badly feigned a Chinese accent on ABC’s “The View” in response to an earlier appearance on the show by Danny DeVito. In response, a Chinese-American poet named Beau Sia created a video which he posted at YouTube in which he addresses O’Donnell’s defensive posturing. In the video he asks O’Donnell to recognize her mistake and atone for it. But it’s doubtful she would even if she were made aware of the video. Sia’s presentation is quite interesting and very passionate. It is worth watching whether you are supportive or dismissive of O’Donnell.

Just like clockwork (orange), it’s time for Open Trackback Friday! Right now it’s your opportunity to share interesting entries from your very own blog by using this blog’s trackback feature. I and visitors to this blog like to read interesting stuff on others’ blogs. So link your post to this one, send a trackback to it and it’ll appear in the comments section after I manually approve it. I have to approve all comments & trackbacks manually due to spam bots so it won’t show up immediately, but I will get to it as soon as I can. I use myself as the ultimate spam filter. I manually delete all spam before you, the reader, are subjected to it. Just rightclick where it says “trackback” below and then click on “copy shortcut” to get the trackback URL. That’s all there is to it! And thank you in advance for trackbacking to my blog. And while you’re here, please take some time to look at some articles I’ve posted. Maybe you’ll find something interesting. If you do, trackback to it as well.

It sounds like a scam. I mean, really…making a quality, handmade guitar from an Ikea endtable??? However I’ve been familiar with Zachary Guitars and his website for several years and I know for a fact that his guitars are some of the best in the world. Zachary is a true artisan in terms of creating not only attractive works of art, but truly awesome player’s guitars. These aren’t guitars meant to hand on a wall for decorative purposes. That would be a waste of his creativity. I’ve read comments and reviews from people who actually played his guitars and every single one loves playing them. I hope if I ever win the lottery and get much better at playing that I would be able to purchase one as my primary player. The Ikea guitar, to me, is a really cool concept. I love the unfinished wood look. It’s ironic that the wood used in Ikea’s $15 table would make such a tonally superb guitar. According to the Zachary guitars website concerning the Ikea guitar:
This is one of the most interesting guitars I ever built and it is also one of the best. The action is great, the tone is unbelievable, the neck is super fast, tuning stability is as good as it gets. In short, everything just worked out great on this guitar. This amazingly figured top is from Ikea Furnishings. I bought one of their unfinished end tables for $15 and I can get three guitar tops from it. What a shame that they would use such amazing “tone-wood” for their cheap furniture. Its a sacrilege.
If you are remotely thinking about purchasing a Zachary guitar, be patient, only a handful are made each year. Expect a lengthy wait. But it will be well worth it in every respect.

I’m not sure how to take this video however it’s worth it just for the cheesy “Thriller” spoof portion. However you take it, don’t take it seriously.

One of my favorite bands of all time, Barenaked Ladies have a new video out for their song “Sound Of Your Voice.” The video stars many fairly well-known YouTube “celebrities” but the band themselves aren’t in it (except for one brief Terry Gilliam-esque animation sequence). I think the video is outstanding and definitely worth watching.

I promise: this will be my one and only entry regarding Anna Nicole Smith. And the question I pose is this: which network will be the first to announce a movie about Smith to be broadcast during sweeps? It’s going to happen.

This video is outstanding. It skewers Hillary and her insincerity in regards to the war in Iraq. It was created by Bryan Preston over at Hot Air and in case the video isn’t viewable on this blog you can go there to view it as well.

I just read the news that professional wrestler Mike Awesome (real name: Mike Alfonso) has died at the age of 42. According to reports, he was found last Saturday (Feb. 17) hanging in his Tampa, Florida home, found by friends, and suicide is suspected. He worked for ECW, WCW, WWE and TNA as well as in Japan during his career which started in 1989 after being trained by Steve Keirn. During his wrestling career he had notable feuds with stars such as, Masato Tanaka, Scott Steiner, Diamond Dallas Page, Lance Storm and Steve Corino. I offer my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Mike Awesome.

I read the open letter Charlie Daniels wrote to Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid concerning their actions (or rather inactions) regarding the Iraq war and the ongoing troop surge. I applaud Mr. Daniels for the letter and ask the very same things he does. I doubt any substantive answer will be forthcoming from either Pelosi or Reid.

On today’s news it was reported that more climbers are in trouble on Mount Hood in the state of Washington. This comes only months after several climbers died while awaiting rescue on the mountain. Why climb Mt. Hood? Especially in winter which is the worst time of the year to climb it. And especially when it was well known in both cases that bad weather was on the way. There is nothing substantive that comes from climbing the mountain except the stroke the ego of type “A” personalities who choose to climb the mountain during the worst times of the year. Now other people have to risk their lives to rescue these yahoos. Since it is impossible to stop people from doing foolish things like climbing a mountain during inclement weather, then it may be time to make it official that if you choose to climb the mountin during certain times of the year, you do so at your own risk. Make it known that if you get stranded, no one is coming after you. I feel it’s just about no longer justifiable to cause millions of dollars to be spent on rescue attempts that put more lives at risk. I can’t and won’t feel sorry for any jabrone who gets stranded and dies on Mount Hood (or any other mountain for that matter) as a result of stroking his or her own ego. There comes a point when thrillseekers go to far to get that adrenaline rush and climbing a mountain during parts of the year where it’s most dangerous qualifies as one of those times.

Tonight at 10pm EST marks the debut of Fox News’ new comedy/satire show The 1/2 Hour News Hour. With most all comedy shows on television being controlled by people with a marked liberal bent, it will be interesting how Fox’s foray into political and social satire will turn out. Already reaction is interesting. The Radio Equalizer blog reports mixed reviews with the Washington Post’s Tom Shales giving it a surprisingly good review while it was torn to shreds at the conservative Hot Air site. Also The Radio Equalizer has a video preview introduced by Sean Hannity featuring a look into the future where the President of the United States is Rush Limbaugh, something that would probably give many liberal extremists a coronary. If it doesn’t then the appearance of the “Vice-President” surely will.
UPDATE: I watched the show and with the exception of the Limbaugh/Coulter skit and one joke early on in the show, the humor was a bit flat. It seemed too forced. The ACLU fake ads were sharp and made their points well, but it could have been done better. The running gag concerning the scheduled appearance of Ed Begley, Jr. really fell flat and wasn’t funny at all. Cute, but not funny. And definitely not worth being a running gag. The delivery by the two co-hosts was stiff and over-acted and at times reminded me of public high school acting class performers. It has potential but the first show really didn’t hit the mark it was aiming for. I will see if it improves on the second show. Anyway, that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.
UPDATE 2: Ratings numbers are in and The 1/2 Hour News Hour did remarkably well. According to a TVNewser report:
The heavily-promoted premiere delivered 499,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo and 1,478,000 total viewers.
The show gained about 170,000 demo and around 300,000 total viewers from its lead-in. Half the viewers immediately tuned out, giving The Line Up just 231,000 demo and 787,000 viewers at 10:30pm.
Even though the reviews have been mixed, the show’s debut pulled in quite a few viewers. Let’s see how much future shows do.

Believe it or not, the chicken you see above is valued at just a tad over $7,400 per pound. That’s because the “braised chicken” was carved from a kind of jade stone called Shou San Shi. It was once displayed in Qilu Jewellery Shop of Jinan City, Shandong Province of China. The sculputure weighs around 4.85 pounds and was priced at 280,000 Yuan (app. $35,900 US dollars).
Even though it’s turned cold here in north Florida, I extend warmest welcome to all the readers from Stop The ACLU, Pirate’s Cove, Woman Honor Thyself, Perri Nelson’s Website, The Bullwinkle Blog, 123beta.
