This is the last Friday in July. When I was a kid, the end of July was the end of summer for me since fall football practice started early (and I mean EARLY because the two-a-days started with a morning practice at 6am) and school started soon thereafter. So trips to the pool were pretty much over when July was over. However on this final July Friday it’s Open Trackback Friday once again! Remember the classic video for Michael Jackson’s song “Thriller”? I found a video of inmates at Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (Cebu, Phillipines) practicing it for some unknown performance. Or it could be a special punishment thing. I don’t know. Definitely weird. Maybe this could be adopted for United States prisons. Nah…the ACLU would object claiming it’s cruel and unusual punishment.

Thanks to Wizbang! blog I just found about the newly formed Media Mythbusters Wiki and blog. According to the blog:
Media Mythbusters is a place for approved contributors to archive facts and links to chronicle major journalism’s treatment of stories in which questions have arisen regarding facts or methods of reporting. Because the site is a wiki, it will always be a work in progress. Some of the listed entries consist of just a framework awaiting content to come, while others are already quite extensive. We have provided a format and some intitial posted items to serve as the beginning of a site I hope will grow considerably into a valuable resource.
I’ve added both the Wiki and the blog to my blogrolls and website links to the left of the page. I think it’s a good service nowadays because the national corporate media has become so untrustworthy of late. The national mainstream corporate media has fallen below “trust but verify” and now is simply distrust. Hopefully this will aid anyone wishing to find the truth in news reporting.

I just found out that Samantha Burns, of the blog “The Crazy Rants of Samantha Burns” has decided to end her blogging for the time being and turn over her blog to someone else. I’ve been enjoying her blog for quite a while and have been a frequent reader. I hope she will eventually either contribute from time to time or maybe come back full time after some time off. In a couple of earlier posts (click here and here to view them) I wrote about Jimmy Buffett’s video for his song “Bama Breeze” which was shot at the Hurricane Katrina-damaged Fire Dog Saloon in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. This is the video which shows a lot of the saloon as well as some of the damaged area nearby the Fire Dog Saloon. I enjoy the video and the song is great but every time I watch it, it evokes bittersweet emotions in me. I guess that was the intent.

Many years ago in a quiet little blues village called Clarksdale in the land of Mississippi, a child was born on this day that Thomas and Cecelia named Carl.
They raised that boy although he gave them ample reason to leave him beside the roadway in the deep dark forest over the years.
Yup…that was me and today is my birthday. And although I won’t say how old I am44, I will say that44 I am somewhere in44 between 21 and 101.
If you are considering sending me a present, I wouldn’t mind a Fender Telecaster Deluxe in black with chrome hardware. Or maybe a Sony laptop. Or even a 2007 Toyota Avalon.
What? Can’t get any of those? Oh well, a hearty “Happy Birthday” will be just fine.
I don’t plan on doing anything special today to celebrate. I can’t have a birthday cake anymore (too much sugar causes something called “dumping syndrome” which is an after effect of gastric bypass surgery) and I can’t afford a weekend vacation anywhere. So it’ll be just another Saturday. Same old, same old.
Wait…maybe I shouldn’t have said old.

Remember Cindy Sheehan claiming she was done protesting and wanted out of the spotlight? Well, she lied. Now she’s announced her candidacy to run for the Congressional seat held by Dianne Feinstein because Feinstein is not liberal enough to suit Sheehan. Then she was banned by Markos Moulitsas’s uber-liberal Daily Kos blog where she was welcomed before. So the liberals are eating their own once again. So predictable.
Sheehan was confronted yesterday in Alabama by a gentleman who asked her directly, “What happens to Iraq after we leave?”
With predictable avoidance, Sheehan dodged, ducked and weaved verbally (and very badly at that) to NOT answer the question. NewsBusters has more on this including video. This just goes to show once again that Sheehan qualifies as a liberal extremist who won’t address the issue of the consequences of the actions she wishes would take place…namely the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. Personally I hope she does run and manages somehow to get into a formal debate with Feinstein because even though I feel Feinstein is completely out of touch with America, I also feel Sheehan is out of touch with reality and that would be made apparent if she actually entered into any formal debate with Feinstein (or anyone else of any reasonable intelligence).

Liberal blogger Hart Williams called for the assassination of both Ted Nugent and Rush Limbaugh recently. Nugent appeared on Fox’s Hannity & Colmes show last night to speak about it as well some other topics. Williams denies he called for the assassinations claiming the quotes were taken out of context however I read the whole article Williams wrote and still conclude, as do others, that Williams did indeed call for the assassinations and is now backpeddling furiously. Blue Star Chronicles has more on this as well as Williams’ piece that started all the furor. I also read a comment left on The Northern Muckraker from Williams using a pseudonym claiming that a lack of reading comprehension is the reason why people thought he was threatening Nugent & Limbaugh. However many people, including myself, who do have excellent comprehension skills in reading still conclude that Williams did, in fact, call for the assassination of both Limbaugh and Nugent. This is the peaceful nature of the liberal extremist?
UPDATE #1: A Hart Williams defender left a comment claiming that Williams didn’t call for the assassination of Limbaugh and Nugent but was calling “for an end of hate speech by right-wingers like Rush and Nugent because it would inevitably lead to a civil war.” However if one bothers to actually read Williams’ piece, it becomes apparent that Williams also called for the killing of Limbaugh and Nugent. So my point stands and is correct. As to the claims of “hate speech” by Limbaugh and Nugent, that’s ludicrous on its own. And for what Limbaugh and Nugent say leading to “civil war” is merely a fantasy that Williams and/or the commentor imagine. Doesn’t matter. Both the “hate speech” and the “civil claims” are equally assinine.
UPDATE #2: I’ve been reading quite a few blogs that have mentioned this and have noticed that Hart Williams has left quite a few comments on many blogs. It’s becoming apparent that he’s thoroughly enjoying his 15 minutes of minor fame and going to milk it for all that it is worth. Especially on liberal blogs that support him and ignore what he actually wrote. Well, if liberals follow their usual pattern, they’ll support him until he writes or says something contrary to the liberal playbook and then they’ll turn on him just as they stabbed other fellow liberals in the back who broke the liberal lockstep in the past.
