I couldn’t get these two comic strips on the blog in time for Christmas. I thought they were funny. I relate well to Dagwood.

Did Santa bring you what you wanted for Christmas? Are you hitting the “after Christmas” sales? Most importantly, did you remember Christmas is a celebration of the birth of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ? I hope the third one gets a lot of “yes” answers. It’s the Friday after Christmas and it’s also Open Trackback Friday! It is your opportunity to share interesting blog entries from your blog by using this blog’s trackback feature. Many people, including myself enjoy reading a variety of material from other people’s blogs, so link your post to this one, send a trackback to it and it’ll appear in the comments section after I manually approve it. I still approve all comments & trackbacks manually due to spam bots so it won’t show up immediately, but I will get to it as soon as I can. I am still using myself as the ultimate spam filter but now have the aid of an excellent trackback filter. To obtain the trackback URL simply rightclick where it says “trackback” below and then click on “copy shortcut” to get it. That’s all there is to it! And thank you in advance for trackbacking to my blog. And while you’re here, please take some time to look at some articles I’ve posted. Maybe you’ll find something interesting. If you do, trackback to it as well.

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
It was the Christmas morning tradition of my maternal grandparents to read the story of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ from the Bible. It reminded us all of the true reason of why we celebrate Christmas. It is a tradition I remember fondly and one I try to carry on even if it is just my wife and I. And I wanted to share this tradition with you, dear reader.
May you have a very blessed and merry Christmas.
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head.
The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay,
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.
The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes;
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle ’til morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray;
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,
And take us to Heaven to live with Thee there.

I initially posted this in 2007 but the video got so many hits that the CEO of a major record company tracked down the graduates of the college where they performed as Straight No Chaser and signed them to a 5-CD deal. The first CD released recently is their Christmas CD and it has the audio from their live performance of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” with a twist.

It’s the Friday before Christmas which is less than a week away. I got my shopping done…in August! Presents shipped two weeks ago. No stressing out over Christmas here. And I’m not afraid to be politically incorrect and wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS! On top of that it’s Open Trackback Friday! Terrell Owens is now a Dallas Cowboy. Let’s see how long it takes before the blowhard ticks off teammates and management much less the fan. Actually he’s already got a headstart with the fans.
He’s doing just as I predicted. Face it, as talented as Owens is, he’s still just a prima donna punk when he doesn’t get his way. Owens and tight end Jason Witten got into a heated exchange in the Cowboys’ locker room and would have come to blows if they weren’t separated. This is in addition to recent disruptions and whinings from Owens. The Cowboys have zero chance of making it to the Super Bowl especially if Owens plays his little “me, me, me…it’s all about me” games of which he’s infamous wherever he played.

Due to an unexpected change of server by this blog’s host, The World According To Carl was offline for more than a day. I didn’t know in advance that this was planned but the folks at the hosting site tell me their new, bigger server should improve things overall.

In probably the worst-kept secret in college athletics, University of Florida’s current offensive coordinator Dan Mullen arrived on Mississippi State University’s campus and will be named the Bulldog’s head football coach in a press conference Thursday morning. It’s not just a rumor any longer and is being reported by several dozen media outlets. Mullen has served under current Gators head coach Urban Meyer for the past eight seasons, following Meyer from Bowling Green to Utah and then to Florida. He has spent the past four seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Florida and served as quarterbacks coach while at Bowling Green and Utah as well. His background is as a strong recruiter and a well-established offensive background as seen at UF. I am now somewhat, yet cautiously, optimistic that Mullen may bring the Bulldogs into an era of respectability at the very least. At this point with so many wait-till-next-years under my belt I’m leaving it at that.

I’ve managed to not have an Open Trackback Friday for the past two weeks but I have my reasons. Last week I was out of town recuperating from Thanksgiving dinner the day before and the Friday before that I was recuperating from thyroidectomy surgery. Heck, I almost forgot to do today’s but managed to squeak it in under the deadline. Therefore give a hearty welcome back to Open Trackback Friday!
