Alright, the doggoned POTUS debate at Ole Miss is over and I couldn’t care less. Now we gotta endure the seemingly endless analyses from every political pundit whether real or imagined. I can’t imagine how lame some of the people they’re gonna trot out to regale us and bore us with their refuse opinions about the debates. Let me make my position absolutely clear: I could NOT care less. There. Proper form of the phrase as well (as opposed to “I could care less” which is improper wording). For one of the few times in my job, I was tickled pink that I work the night shift and wasn’t exposed to the debate. I find them boring, useless and frankly a waste of air time. They don’t reveal anything we already don’t know by this time and usually benefits mostly the media which uses the opportunity to waste time over anal-lyzing what was said, what was not said and what should have been said well past the point of nausea. The media would rather anal-lyze post debate than report hard news. So much for journalism which was taken off life-support and died in the summer of 2008. Mark your calendars, folks. It was an historic event. Now the mainstream liberal corporate media has collectively come out of the political closet to become propaganda tools of the Democratic party. Can’t be denied any longer.
Thus endeth the rant. And thus endeth any possibility of future posts concerning this McCain-Obama joint press conference…er…debate and any future debate between POTUS and Vice-POTUS candidates.

The cool weather from last week is now a little bit cooler. Nice. My wife and I sat on the front porch enjoying the cooler temperatures. Hopefully the warm weather is gone since fall started this week. And this week brings about another Open Trackback Friday! It is your opportunity to share interesting blog entries from your blog by using this blog’s trackback feature. Many people, including myself enjoy reading a variety of material from other people’s blogs, so link your post to this one, send a trackback to it and it’ll appear in the comments section after I manually approve it. I still approve all comments & trackbacks manually due to spam bots so it won’t show up immediately, but I will get to it as soon as I can. I am still using myself as the ultimate spam filter but now have the aid of an excellent trackback filter. To obtain the trackback URL simply rightclick where it says “trackback” below and then click on “copy shortcut” to get it. That’s all there is to it! And thank you in advance for trackbacking to my blog. And while you’re here, please take some time to look at some articles I’ve posted. Maybe you’ll find something interesting. If you do, trackback to it as well.

This blog just celebrated it’s 4th birthday a few days ago and today it received visitor number 75,000! That visitor was from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Thanks to that unknown visitor. Only 25K more to the 100,000 mark.

The latest PhotoHunt category from tnchick.com is “Road” which can be interpreted as one sees fit. It’s been a long time since I had the time to participate in a Photohunt so I’ve decided to offer up multiple photos for this week’s category.
Back in 1995, we had some horrendous spring rains causing major flooding. This caused my normal route to work to be disrupted because some of the road was closed due to flooding so I had to detour through some rural roads in south Georgia to get to my job in rural north Florida. I passed a lot of interesting things and on a weekend I decided to go rambling and take pictures. This photo from the top of a hill on a rural road just was interesting to me.
This photo is from J Lee Vause Park which is near where I live. It’s a nice little city park which is actually a tad outside of the city limits, but who’s paying attention to details? It’s a little one-way loop in and out of the park that is nice and quiet.
This is a picture of the roadway at the edge of the old, original Victory Bridge in Chattahoochee, Florida. It was part of the old U.S. Highway 90 and the bridge’s construction began in 1919 and was dedicated for use in 1922. I have more pictures and more detailed information on it at my little online photo album. Incidentally, the road and what remains of the bridge has not been used for automobile traffic for several decades. Two other bridges also known as the Victory Bridge were subsequently built with the third one being currently used (there is nothing remaining of the second bridge). The abandoned roadway and bridge segments from the original Victory Bridge are much narrower than modern paved roadways.

*SIGH* Deja vu. First I witness Mississippi State stinking up the place and this evening I witness Florida State stink up the place as well. Three words: turnovers and penalties. That’s what really killed any chances of FSU winning the game. 7 turnovers and 12 penalties for 139 years. Good grief. They handed Wake Forest the game on a silver platter and gave them opportunity after opportunity to make this game a blowout but Wake Forest’s offense couldn’t capitalize. However they still managed to win 12 to 3: all scored on field goals. First Mississippi State loses and now Florida State loses. I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see if the New Orleans Saints can beat the Denver Broncos in Denver to salvage my sports weekend.

*SIGH* I am sorely disappointed in how the Mississippi State Bulldogs looked today against Georgia Tech. Frankly, the Dawgs looked pathetic on the field. Although they managed to move the ball between the 20s, once they got into the red zone they were stymied. That combined with 3 turnovers killed any legitimate chances MSU had to make this game competitive. The final score was 38-7 and MSU was lucky to get the sole touchdown.
Maybe Florida State will do well against Wake Forest tonight.

Just as Hurricane Ike struck the Texas Gulf Coast, there was panic buying of gasoline which wiped out the supply locally. Even today many stations are without fuel. Oh well. It will pick up soon. I’ve also finally set up some bird feeders in my front yard and numerous birds have discovered the goodies. Fortunately the squirrel baffle is working keeping the critters from scrambling up the pole to get the seed in the feeders. And to top it all off, cooler weather is starting to arrive…if you consider upper 80’s cooler. Be that as it may, I present to you once again Open Trackback Friday! On this date in 2004, I made my very first entry in this blog known as The World According To Carl. This blog was initially put together and set up as a present from my wife and at the time I really didn’t know how interested I would be in blogging. I think four years and over 1500 posts later, that question has been definitively answered. In those four years, my humble little blog has had almost 75,000 hits. Not much compared to the major blogs out there, but a nice number for something that is just an outlet for my creativity. So I’m going to pop the top of a nice bottle of Barq’s to celebrate. But before I do, I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to visit The World According To Carl, looked around and maybe left a comment or two.
Oh…by the way…gifts won’t be refused.

I do get tired when liberal play the “dissent is patriotic” card but show the content of their dissent to be completely unpatriotic.

Over this past weekend, my wife and I made a spur-of-the-moment stop at Fresh Market. It’s a gourmet grocery store and is a place at which we don’t normally shop but we were in the neighborhood and decided to check it out to see if they have something interesting. While in there we discovered they carry Mexican Coca Cola. That may not sound like much, but Mexican Coca Cola uses real cane sugar instead of inferior high fructose corn syrup.
Prior to 1985, Coca Cola used sugar in their formula. But in 1985, some major idiot came up with “New Coke” which some more idiots in the Coca Cola company managed to convince higher-up idiots to sell to the public.
To be blunt, “New Coke” sucked.
After declining sales and high demand, Coca Cola created “Coca Cola Classic” also known simply as “Coke Classic” which the company claimed was identical to the old formula.
They lied.
Rather than use cane sugar as they did prior to 1985, they substituted high fructose corn syrup for cane sugar. Coca Cola officials claimed the flavor was identical but blind taste tests proved it was not. However even though the public wanted their Coca Cola made with cane sugar again, the company refused to comply claiming cane sugar was too expensive. That may be true at the time, but today it isn’t. Yet Coca Cola still has no plans of producing Coca Cola using cane sugar. I understand that there are a handful of Coke bottlers who produce limited quantities of Coca Cola made with real cane sugar but I don’t know which bottlers are doing that. I do know Coca Cola is produced with cane sugar for the Jewish market during Passover.
However Coca Cola manufactured and bottled in other countries are many times made with cane sugar. Mexico is one of those countries. Fresh Market carries the beverage locally and my wife and I bought two bottles to try. And it definitely tastes better than American Coca Cola made with high fructose corn syrup. If you happen to run across some bottles of Mexican Coca Cola, try it and see if what I have written isn’t true. I’ve read that Costco also carries Mexican Coca Cola by the case but since I hold no membership, I don’t know if the local Costco does or doesn’t.
But I wish Coca Cola would just go ahead and make it with cane sugar again.
